  I.Project Background

  1.Origin of Tianqin Plan:

  In 2014,Luo Jun,an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,proposed the Tianqin Plan,aiming at gravitational wave detection in space.The goal of the plan is to deploy three all-synchronous satellites in the earth orbit at a height of about 100,000 km to form an equilateral triangle constellation with a side length of about 170,000 km,and to establish a space gravitational wave observatory in order to open up a window for gravitational wave detection from 0.1 mHz to 1 Hz.

  Through this programme,people are expected to obtain a large amount of information that cannot be obtained by other means of detection and unveil more mysteries of the universe.The whole programme is expected to have a total investment of about$15 billion and is planned to be implemented around 2035.

  1.Construction Background

  In order to meet the demand for precision measurement of gravitational waves,gravitational experimental field is usually established in the vibration of small,constant temperature inside the cave,known as the‘cave super-static laboratory’.This approach avoids the effects of ground vibrations and temperature variations on the measurement data.

  However,the rocky structure of caves results in high resistivity and poor grounding conditions,leading to grounding resistances that do not meet design requirements.At the same time,high-frequency and low-frequency signals exist in the grounding network at the same time,which interferes with the measurement data and poses a serious risk to the safe operation of the experimental equipment.

  1.Construction background

  The Tangjiawan Big South Mountain Emergency Shelter Project was built for the construction of laboratories and ancillary facilities for the‘Tianqin Project’.The project includes the main body of the tunnel and the connecting roads.The main body of the tunnel is in the shape of‘Zhong’,with a total area of 24,030 square metres,and the total length of the road is about 199 metres.

  The Tangjiawan Big South Mountain Project is a tunnel construction project,where the accumulation of groundwater leads to poor drainage,which is a considerable test for the adhesion of materials.The project is a key research project,adjacent to Zhuhai,where seawater is constantly immersed in the ground leading to corrosion.Therefore,the corrosion resistance of the material becomes crucial.
